Edinburgh WIP - ALICE FRASER and JOHN HASTINGS

See two work-in-progress Edinburgh Festival shows from excellent comedians in central London for a super cheap price...

ALICE FRASER: EMPIRE
Following sold-out seasons and rave reviews, Australia’s Alice Fraser is back with a fresh hour of unpredictably meaningful, occasionally silly, narratively unorthodox art-comedy. Empire is a show about power, quantum physics and Disney villains. Academic, ex-corporate lawyer, writer and critically acclaimed comedian Alice has performed with the Cambridge Footlights and toured the world. She’s debated Julian Assange and done a TEDx talk. One day she’ll make her father proud. Empire is the follow-up to five-star hits Savage and The Resistance. Book early! ***** (Funny Tonne). ‘Gut-punchingly funny. See this show’ ***** (Herald Sun, Australia). ***** (BroadwayBaby.com)

JOHN HASTINGS: AUDACITY
BBC Three's John Hastings, the funniest white comedian from Canada, was briefly vegan and is currently in love. An Amused Moose Comedy Award-nominated comedian, he's here to confront his fear of confrontation and prove that love starts in the toilet (not that kind, you yucky idiots). This 'fast growing comic is a pleasure to watch' (Times). **** (Herald). **** (Fest). **** (ThreeWeeks). **** (BroadwayBaby.com). ***** (Melbourne Herald Sun). **** (EdFestMag.com). **** (Now Magazine). **** (ThreeWeeks). 'His act is packed with observations and wit that will stay with you in a good way' ***** (Mirror)

Sydney Opera House: All About Women, Chairing The Happy Feminist with Mallory Ortberg

Some critics might see the term ‘Happy Feminist’ as an oxymoron. Aren’t all feminists meant to be depressed or outraged? Not Mallory Ortberg. Think about great works of literature or the history of western art. With men historically telling the stories and painting the pictures, a woman’s fate can be grim, or at best, pretty dull. But why complain about women’s exclusion from the Western Canon when you can laugh about it?

On The Toast and in Texts from Jane Eyre, Mallory has created her own comic genre. She combines ferocious wit and incurable optimism to show us how a happy feminist can make light of  our unhappy pasts.

Mallory Ortberg is an American writer, editor, and a co-founder of the feminist general interest site The Toast. She previously wrote forGawker and The Hairpin, where she met co-founder ofThe Toast, Nicole Cliffe. Her first book, Texts from Jane Eyre, was released in November 2014, and became a New York Times bestseller. Ortberg was included in the 2015 Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Media category.

Alice Fraser wanted to write an easy, Silly comedy show.
Then something happened, & she wrote SAVAGE instead.
Come to 100 Camden High Street, London, NW1 0LU

Everyone believes something. It’s what makes civilisation tick. But after a chance encounter with a true believer, Alice starts to think that maybe she’s a heretic.
What does she believe, and what’s at stake? Life, death, love and paper towels; when you’re an outsider, sometimes faith is the last thing you need. Some things make you feel Savage.

What makes you tick? What do you believe?
